FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For those used to having all the answers for everyone else, it’s okay to have questions of your own.
Below you'll find some of the questions I hear most often from those starting therapy. If you have additional questions I haven't addressed below, reach out for a consult and we can schedule a time to talk more.

Getting Started
What is the consultation call for?
I offer a free 20-minute video call so we can get to know each other a bit better. We’ll talk through what’s leading you to explore therapy, and I can answer any questions you have about how I work. It’s just an easy way to see if we’re a good match for your journey before taking the next step together.
How do I use my Out-of-Network benefits?
I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I do not bill insurance directly. I can provide you with a monthly Superbill (a detailed receipt) that you submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. I recommend calling your provider first to ask about your out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits.
How often will we meet?
I find that meeting once a week, especially as we start, helps us build a steady connection and keeps the momentum going for our deeper work together. As you begin to feel more grounded and sturdy, we can always talk about transitioning to bi-weekly sessions. If you ever feel you need more space to process, or if we’re meeting less frequently, I also offer extended sessions. We can look at those options together to find the rhythm that best supports your needs.
The Therapy Process
What happens in the first session?
First sessions can feel a little strange. We are two humans getting to know each other, and it takes a moment to find our pace. Once we’ve covered the logistics of paperwork and confidentiality, I’ll invite you into the conversation by asking how you’re coming in today. There is no pressure to have a "plan." Whether you have a specific topic ready to go or you’re just showing up as you are, I am here to help you feel seen and cared for from the very start.
How is your approach different from "talk therapy"?
AEDP is an experiential therapy centered on one core mission: undoing aloneness. Rather than simply analyzing your past, we create a shared space where your experiences are actively witnessed and held.
We integrate somatic awareness—the simple practice of noticing how your body carries stress or relief in real time. This isn't performative; it’s as practical as noticing a tight chest or a sudden exhale. By tuning into these physical cues, we help your nervous system shift from survival mode into a state of safety. This process fosters the growth of healthy new neural networks, allowing you to move through the world feeling sturdy, connected, and less reactive to old triggers.
How long does therapy usually take?
There is no "one-size-fits-all" timeline. Short-term work (a few months) can provide relief for specific symptoms or transitions, while deep-seated patterns or complex trauma often require a longer-term commitment (a year or more). We will regularly check in on your progress.
The Deeper Work
How do I know if my experience is "trauma"?
Trauma isn’t always about one "big event." Often, it’s simply about how your nervous system learned to cope when things felt unsafe or overwhelming. If you find yourself constantly braced, carrying heavy guilt, or feeling disconnected -- especially within the context of relational distress and high-control religion or families -- please know that your experience is valid. You don't need a major story to deserve a space to explore and heal.
Will therapy make me less productive?
High-achievers often fear that "softening" means losing their edge. My goal isn't to take away your drive, but to help you move from a place of constant exhaustion to a place of sustainable sturdiness. We work on being effective without being depleted.
